Crockpot Applesauce

My children love having warm applesauce with their dinner.  Lucky for me, it’s not hard to throw together and can be made about an hour before dinner, or put in the crockpot early in the day.  I prefer the latter to free up my meal prep.

All you need is apples, sugar, cinnamon {if you like or you can use red hots}, and a little water.  Generally I just buy two bags of apples – one Granny Smith, one a sweeter variety.  You can use any you like.  If you are only going to use sweet apples then you might want to cut the sugar.

In the fall, I make big batches of applesauce with my Mom to freeze, but when I run out before apple season this is what I do.

Crockpot Applesauce

  • Apples – your choice – I used 6 of Granny Smith and 4 Gala
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • cinnamon {to your liking}

Wash, core and slice apples.  No need to peel them as they will get all mushy and blend up nicely so the kids won’t notice.  Place in crock pot and toss with other ingredients.  Cook on low for about 6 hours.  {If you do this on the stove, I bring the water to a boil then turn down till the apples are soft.}  Run apples through a blender in batches till texture you desire with some of the liquid.  {Be sure you have a towel over the blender lid so nothing splashes on you}  Serve warm, store reminder in refrigerator {or you can freeze}.

    I love homemade applersauce-so easy to make and no nasty HFCS or any other undesirable ingredients.

    I love to make homemade applesauce, it taste so much better than the store bought stuff. I will have to try to make it in the crockpot this fall, it will certainly make the house smell great all day.
