CW Post Cereal

Do you remember CW Post cereal?  I grew up eating it periodically and it was one of my favorites.  Of course one day it disappeared from the store shelves – guess it wasn’t as popular as they had hoped. As an adult the closest I had ever found was the little clusters in Honey Bunches of Oats (by Post).  When Honey Bunches of Oats came out it became one of my favorites (now I love the new peach flavor!)  Anyway…  So what has Post finally came out with?  Just Bunches!  I am pretty sure this is just about he same thing as my original CW Post.  I am delighted to have one of my favorite Childhood cereals back!   How about you…  is there a cereal you miss from days past?  Have you tried the new Just Bunches?  If so, what do you think?

Cocoa Puffs before they became more chocolaty.

I have tried the new Just Bunches in hopes that it was like my all-time favorite cereal CW Post. Unfortunately, it failed to entice my taste buds. I wish they’d just bring CW Post BACK instead of trying to create clones that miss the mark!

I used to love CW post cereal. My favorite however was the recipe for CW post cereal Pie. It was awesome. I would love to try this pie recipe using another close tasting granola cereal..but unfortunately i cant find the recipe i had for that either. It was kind of like a pecan pie..only it had cw post cereal in it and log cabin syrup as well as other ingredients. Does anybody still have this recipe?

Just finished a bowl of Just Bunches! While it was good in its own right, it just isn’t the same as C.W. Post cereal. I agree with Sam…”just bring CW Post back!”

  5. Chris says:

I agree. I LOVED C.W. Post and wish they would bring it back. I think it would do much better this time, with Americans being more health conscious.

  6. Steve Goulet says:

Yes — it was the best cereal I have ever tasted. Post — are you listening? This is viral baby!

CW Post was my all-time favorite growing up as well. I often think about it and wish it would come back. I hadn’t heard of “Just Bunches” until just a moment ago when, to my surprise, I pulled a box from our pantry. My wife bought it this week in preparation for our Thanksgiving guests. At first, I simply thought, “Oh this is a cool new cereal. I’ll try it.” Second thought was, “Hmmm…this box really resembles the size of the old CW Post boxes.” Well, at first bite, the immediate thought was, “Oh my gosh! This is CW Post.” But, of course, after taking several more bites, it has too much caramel flavor to be the REAL thing. So, although it’s as close as anything to CW Post, it’s not quite there. So, Post Cereals, please bring back THE REAL THING! But if this appeal, and the others posted previously, falls on deaf ears, I’ll enjoy “Just Bunches” while reminiscing about all the glorious mornings as a youngster enjoying a wholesome cereal at the kitchen counter!

Just like you my favorite childhood cereal was CW Post, I remember going shopping with my mom or when I visited my grandparents for the summer, I’d go shopping with my grandmother and she’d buy myself and my brothers each our favorite cereal. I remember going shopping one day with my mom, and there was no C.W. Post. I didn’t think nothing of it so when she went to another store we tried there but to no avail, and I was wondering what happened to it. After we couldn’t find it, I just had to pick another favorite. Well a couple of weeks ago I came back home from a business trip. My wife did the grocery shopping as usual, and my daughter was sitting in front of the computer eating cereal and it was going to be a while before my wife had dinner ready, and the way my daughter was eating she was making that bowl of cereal look very appetizing. So I asked her which cereal was she eating and she said Honey Bunches, Just The Bunches, so I got a bowl, picked up the box and poured some, and I really didn’t pay attention to the way it looked, I poured some milk over it and soon as I put the first bite in my mouth, my whole childhood came rushing right back to me. I’d recognize that taste anywhere. You’re right, it’s the return of C.W. Post just under another name. I for one am glad to have it back.

Just tried the Honey Just Bunches. They are not C.W. Post. They smell somewhat similar, but the taste is only vaguely similar to the old C.W. Post. I wish they would bring back the original.

I used to love that cereal and never found anything like it until this weekend. Go try some of this http://heartlandbrands.com/page/products/granola/granola-cereals It is exactly like C.W. Post if I remember correctly. very good.

I miss C.W. Post soooo much, but I found that Cascadian Farms Organic Oats & Honey Granola is very close to how I remember it tasting. I get it at Target, but I think they carry it other places as well. Try it out!

  12. Kim says:

I am exactly the same as you. CW Post was my favorite cereal and I was totally bummed when they discontinued it. When Honey Bunches of Oats came out I recognized that the clusters were the same thing as the CW Post. That’s now my favorite cereal.

  13. Patty says:

I loved CW Post too! There was an awesome coffee cake recipe that I used to make with it. I think it was on the side of the box, I may try it with some of the CW Post wanna-bes mentioned! I don’t recall the pie tho.

  14. Amy says:

I’m so glad to see that there are other people who remember and loved CW Post cereal. It was my favorite, too!

  15. Scott says:

Funny, I bought “Just Bunches” this week for the first time because I’ve been trying to find something to replace CW Post for a long time.

    Cheers!

    Scott

  16. Tricia says:

I loved CW Post cereal too! Funny if so many people loved it, that they don’t catch on and bring it back! My favorite recipe was Cookie Dots, I think it was called. Does anyone still have this recipe? I thought I’d use it with Just Bunches and see if it compared. Thanks!

  17. CJ says:

The closest thing I have found to the amazing cereal CW Post….take a couple of Nature Valley Bars and crush them into a bowl with some milk….

  18. Andrea says:

I agree with Cereal Eater. I discovered Heartland Original Granola Cereal a few years ago. To me it tastes exactly the same as my beloved CW Post. It’s sometimes hard to find in grocery stores but some carry it. You can also order it from Amazon in bulk:

Well Thank God! Everyone I’ve ever asked about CW Post has had never heard of it. I wondered if maybe I was remembering the wrong name. After all it was a childhood favorite and a long time ago. Anyway I’m glad to know that I had it correct and there are others out like me. Please please please bring the original back.

  20. Jordon says:

  21. Diane Eaton says:

My family’s favorite cereal was CW Post. We like Honey Bunches of Oats, but not as much as CW Post. Bring it back!

  22. Traci Jahnke says:

OMG! It’s my family’s favorite cereal, too! I’m so glad to see others feel the same way. Can we get an online petition going or something?

  23. Monica Doshi says:

I just googled CW Post b/c my favorite face wash was discontinued and it brought back the sad memories of losing CW. I love that there is a support group for people like me…anyone know anyone who works for Post. If they won’t sell it again, maybe they can give us the recipe:)

  24. Anne King says:

Try “Trail Mix” by Post. It’s really great and filling.
Size recommended is 1/2 cup and believe me, that’s really enough. ENJOY!!

  25. Mari says:

I can’t believe I found this. I googled CW Post because I was so excited at finding a new cereal that’s really similar. Except it turns out that the cereal is only new to my grocery store. It’s the Heartland granola cereal that several comments mentioned back in early ’09. Anyway, it just appeared in my local grocery store and I was beyond happy. My favorite dessert as a kid was lemon pudding, cool whip, and CW Post cereal layered into a parfait in my mom’s crystal brandy snifters. Guess what I’m making tonight? ;-)

  26. rawksongs says:

I tried the Heartland Granola & while it is great granola it ISN’T CW Post which was the greatest granola of all time. Please bring it back!!!!

  27. MONIKA says:

OMG, I KNEW I WASN’T THE ONLY ONE. YOU GUYS ARE GONNA THINK I’M CRAZY BUT THE CLOSEST I HAVE COME TO THE TASTE OF CW POST IS… CRACKLING OAT BRAN. MMMMMM
IT DOESN’T LOOK AT ALL THE SAME BUT THE TASTE IS REALLY CLOSE. AND IF WE DON’T EAT IT UP. I’M AFRAID IT TOO WILL BE DISCONTINUED. I HAVE TO DRIVE ACCROSS TOWN TO GET IT. AND I HATE THAT IT IS NOT A MY FAVORITE “LITTLE HEB”

  28. Gillian says:

My question is: WHAT exactly was it that made C.W. Post so great? It was my favorite when I was about nine years old, and I remember there was something especially crispy about it that was in one kind but not the other — is that right? Seems to me there was an orange box and a purple box, and one of them had… dates and raisins? And the other one didn’t? Can’t remember which was which, but I know I liked one more than the other, and maybe the crispy ingredient was popped rice? Whatever was in it, it made regular granola taste like sawdust in comparison. Maybe they put crack in there, and it was before crack was a big thing, so it wasn’t illegal yet? That’s how much I loved it — I would’ve definitely eaten the whole box at once if my mom didn’t always take it away from me after a couple of bowls. The tragic part of my story is that I developed celiac disease about ten years ago, so I can’t eat anything that has even a trace of gluten in it, and most big brand-name breakfast cereals have gluten in them — even the ones made from corn or rice have malt extract, which makes me sorry for a whole week afterwards if I eat it by accident. (Thank goodness for Chex! They just made the rice and corn ones gluten-free! Thanks, Chex! :) Anyway, I’m still wondering what that secret ingredient was in C.W. Post — anyone have a suggestion?
