Fall Decluttering

We are coming out of a 4 day weekend – it was NICE to actually have Thursday to just be home! So Thursday I cleaned out some bedrooms – here’s what I ended up with:

(Plus a Toddler Race Car Bed & 1 more bin!)
I am not a saver by any means… I like the clutter out of my house and it is WAY too cluttered right now! So far in our marriage we have moved every couple of years – so this is the first time we have ever been in the same house for 5 years and I can tell! When you move – you declutter… We have had no motivation to declutter – being that we are in the largest house we have ever had and we have been here awhile – it is time!
Now mind you, we have had a few garage sales, but I have lots more that needs to go! I have been trying to sell a few big things (like the toddler bed someone is coming to get tonight) on Craigslist and on a couple local Facebook groups that allow you to post things for sale. We have donated some.
How about you? Are you a saver or a get-rid-of-er? What is your favorite way to declutter?

I’m definitely a “get rid-of-er” We’ve also moved a lot and that helps, but just had a big garage sale getting ready for another move. That cleansing is cathartic for sure. I kind of get suffocated by stuff anymore.
Saver would be us! We have boxes of items that we moved (gasp!!!) 14 years ago that we still haven’t opened. My husband has put up 3 sheds in the back yard. We keep saying we’ll get around to sorting them someday. We have parented 34 children during that time period, so something else always comes up. I think we need to just load them up and donate them.
I’m a saver, 3rd generation pack-rat. I too need to declutter in a major way. Like Diane we have boxes from our last move 9yrs ago. Now that I’m retired from homeschooling and an empty-nester,its time to get busy. Sometimes I use the 15 min at a time approach, sometimes 5 items at a time. Sometimes I donate, give away, garage sale and ebay. Thanks for the motivation.
My husband is a get-rid-ofer, me, a saver. Why is that? Do we admire the other person when we are dating but hate their habit of tossing when we are married.
I don’t mind lots of books and magazines but am making a conscious effort to clean out the magazines and give away all clothes that don’t fit. But my fabric for my sewing – he would love to put them in the goodwill box but I think he’d be in for dangerous treatment if he did.
His mom just died and he donated all most everything in her house. There were things I was able to scavenge from the boxes that he might be glad to see later but otherwise, her condo is nearly empty. I just couldn’t get rid of things that fast. My daughter helped him. Not needed – give away. No thought. My son is more like me – save for another day. Wish I had more of the “giveaway gene”.
