So for those of you who have saved quite a bit of money this month, what are you going to do with the extra money?
My next month’s challenge is going to be no flour/sugar for my husband and myself. The kids we will try to cut back some, but not cold turkey for them. YIKES! A Scary but much needed challenge! Matt and I will be following the PRISM Program.

I loved the freezer/pantry challenge but I’m not up to the no flour/no sugar challenge so won’t be joining you there! Lol! My kids took donations to school for Haiti and I think we are just going to save the rest for future times when we need it. I am going to try and continue the challenge in the month of February. A move is in our future any way you slice it. One move would have us crossing the country again and not being able to take the freezer stuff so better to use it than lose it. Will keep following your site as I have loved it this past month!
Christine,
I noticed as we went along that you were not mentioning what I refur to as the taxable items that seem to have plaged me though out the month. Were you really stocked up on all that and didn’t run low or were those things not included in your totals?
We did pretty well and could go another month. I spent just under $200 for the month. Which is about 1/3 of my normal. That include an $89 bill at walmart for mostly taxable stuff.
Next month if God willing, my dh doesn’t go out on strike! I plan to be very careful, but build my stock of canned goods. If they do go out this will have been a good thing to have been working on.
The kids will get better and better about not having all the high priced junk food if I can keep up the snack supply.
Next months challange will be too much for me.But I will follow along and provide incouragement if I can.
Thanks for the support.
Peggy
Oh,the vet bill got payed and we have a wonderful, healthy puppy. That’s where my money went.
Peggy,
Yes, I just count groceries, not household items. We did pick up some paper towels, paper plates, TP, and some cleaning supplies at Sam’s Club the other day. I always say it is good to stock up when things go on sale! But that’s how we got so much food in our storage, so it was good to cut back for a month. I probably won’t buy a ton next month either as far as that goes. Really, what most goes on sale is processed foods, that I am trying to SLOWLY weed out of our kids diet.
Christine
No grocery shopping for me this week. I still have meat and vegetables in the freezer. I will be starting a spring garden in a few weeks and stocking the freezer again. Tonight I am making chicken and vegi stir fry for dinner and using the rest of the chicken to make some kind of soup tomorrow. I have noticed that you do eat alot of processed food. You will save even more by eliminating it and buying fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables and making your own snacks. Kids do adjust. My children are grown and I am trying to encourage them to eliminate the processed and fast food from their diets. Good luck with your next challenge.
Christine, That is a very good way to clean out the freezer & pantry to be ready for the new.
I was wondering what most famlies do to be ready for bad snow storms, or anything that would keep you in your home and not let you get to the store, like for over a week or so. What do most people keep on hand just incase?
I keep a box of powdered milk,& canned foods that would make a meal, like chili. As soon as I know a wind storm is coming where we may loose our ele. power, (as we live in the country & have a well with ele. pump)I fill up the tea kettle & some water pitchers.
Does anyone else think about this? Or am I just …..
