Freezer Pantry Challenge – Day 8

January 9, 2010 by christine
Filed under Freezer / Pantry Challenge

I have had a few comments and emails lately about “I don’t have enough stored up to do this”, or “I can’t go that long with out produce”, or “I don’t think I can come up with anything to make”…  Here’s what I say… Just give it a try!  Maybe you can only go for a week.  I’m not saying you can’t buy fresh produce – that is important!  I’m just saying, let’s try to use up some of the things we have sitting around and buy LESS at the store for a little bit.  If you need help figuring out what to make with what you have, try this tool at all recipes

At any rate, it was a boring food day here.  We didn’t have school, so it was just a lazy day.

Breakfast:
Annika – Cherrios & Oatmeal
Dane – Oatmeal, Banana Cake, Apple Cider, Go-Gurt
Ryan & Christian – Toaster Strudels
Me – Banana Cake

Lunch:
Annika:  Corn Puffs, Crackers, Apple Slices, Plum Organics Sweet Potato/Corn/Apple, Macaroni & Cheese
Everyone Else:  Macaroni & Cheese, Apples

Dinner:  Frozen (but cooked) Pizza, Applesauce

Just wanted to let you know you have inspired me! I am not quite following to a T, but pretty much all I’ve gotten this week in groceries is fresh produce and eggs and I still have enough food for probably another week’s worth. I didn’t even realize all I had here until I started to really look so thank you. Admittedly I did get sidetracked by some discounted damaged items but only got a few and each cost less than $.50 so I felt justified. ;)

Also just so you know, I heard about this from the Hillbilly Housewife. I am checking pretty much daily and I’m pulling for you so keep up the good work!

Hi! I finally left the house, heat wave today it was only -10! I bought 1 1/2 dozen eggs at $1.49. Decided against getting fresh milk as the kids are doing great with the powdered. I have a free milk cpn but wasn’t at that store. They are doing everything they can to help with this challenge too! We even sat down and made a menu for the next 10 days. Cross your fingers but I don’t think we will have to buy anything but lettuce this week. We still have fresh apples and oranges from last month that are still holding strong and lots of canned fruit. Maybe some yogurt but that’s it! Our total for the month so far is only $1.49! YEAH! Thanks again for the motivation and something to take our minds off of things. Between you and Suzanne at Hillbilly Housewife I am set!
