Green Smoothies for Kids

Filed under: The Menu Mom Chit Chat — christine @ 10:19 pm

We’re smoothieaholics around here.  In fact, I have a whole other blog dedicated to smoothie recipes.   We generally have at least 1 smoothie a day.   I usually use fresh/frozen fruits & a bit of juice or milk.  The kids love it and it is a great way to add in extra fruits into their diet (and of course milk, as they don’t drink milk plain).

At any rate, at Sam’s Club tonight I bought a huge container or organic spinach!  And guess where that is going?  Yup, straight into their smoothies….  We’re going to try green smoothies!  Think they will drink it?

For green smoothies, you take a couple cups of greens such as spinach or kale, add some fruit, water & ice (if desired) & blend.  I’m thinking frozen strawberries & spinach for tomorrow.  We’ll see how it goes!

Have you tried green smoothies with your kids?  What did they think?

On a final note, I highly recommend the Vita-Mix blender!  Here’s why.  If you ever do choose to order one, you can receive free shipping (a $25 value) by using code:  06-001694

  1. Christine, I can’t wait to hear what your kids think. I don’t know if I could sneak spinach into my boys’ smoothies without an uprising–but I could be wrong!

  2. Believe it or not… They actually really liked them! I didn’t tell them what was in it – just told them it was green alien juice. They drank it up! Then, I told them what was in it & ever since then they have been asking for me to add Spinach to their smothies! The trick is to just fill the blender like half-full of spinach, then the rest with fruit. I don’t add any sugar, but do add some yogurt to get a bit of sweetness in there.
