Sinfully Simple Caramel Sauce

As a general rule, I’m more of a chocolate kind of girl. But this caramel sauce gives chocolate a run for its money. It’s rich, buttery, and perfect on top of icecream (or my favorite – warm, gooey brownies smothered in fresh whipped cream). It’s also a fabulous addition to hot chocolate! The sea salt is optional, but oh so yummy if you’re a fan of the sweet/savory combo.

Sinfully Simple Caramel Sauce

  • 1/2 C (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 C brown sugar
  • 2/3 C heavy whipping cream
  • pinch of sea salt (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Melt butter in a small sauce pan over medium heat. Add brown sugar, and whisk until it begins to thicken, about 2 minutes. Stir in heavy whipping cream, and continue to whisk until thickened, about another 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in salt and vanilla extract. Allow to cool before serving. Store in the refrigerator in a sealed container.

This sauce will thicken in the refrigerator. If it becomes too thick, reheat in the microwave on 50% power until it reaches the desired consistency.
