Did the title cause you to do a double take?  Yes, these are Sloppy Joes, but in my family we renamed them after the person that created this wonderful recipe.  She was my husband’s dear Grandmother.

Let me warn you… if you are like anyone I’ve EVER made this for, you will never want to stop making this recipe.  You will abandon all other recipes.  Even the pickiest eaters, I hear, will love this.  Double it… you’ll want seconds and maybe you’ll be lucky enough to have left overs!

Sloppy Verna’s

Directions:

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • salt, pepper, garlic powder, to taste

Brown and season.

Mix:

  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 T vinegar (I use apple cider vinegar)
  • 1/2 T mustard
  • 4 T sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • salt, pepper, paprika to taste

Pour over beef and simmer 30 minutes.  Serve on buns and enjoy!  You can make this in the crock pot too.  If you have a larger one, I’d at least double the recipe as a crock pot works best when it is at least half full.
