Spaghetti Bravissimo

This is a recipe that has been in my family for as long as I can remember.  It is quick and easy and so flavorful.  You might wonder as you look at the directions.  It says to cook the noodles for 20 minutes or until done and then NOT drain them.  The water and the soup mix gives the noodles their flavor and you are wanting to “cook away” some of the water {not all, I’ve done that by mistake and it was a bit too thick}.  Serve this with some crusty bread, a side salad and applesauce and you have a wonderful dinner for you family that is budget friendly!

Spaghetti Bravissimo

  • 1 envelope Onion Soup Mix
  • 1 pkg. (8oz) spaghetti
  • 1 1/2 quarts boiling water {6 cups}
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 (8oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (7oz) can tomato paste
  • 1 T parsley flakes
  • 1 tea oregano
  • 1/2 tea sweet basil

In large saucepan, combine soup mix and spaghetti with water; cook 20 min or until spaghetti is tender.  DO NOT DRAIN.  In large skillet, brown meat; drain.  Stir in tomato sauce, paste and spices.  Add to onion soup-spaghetti in the pan and heat through.

    I’ve made this for years, under the name ‘Swift Spaghetti’ and it is fast and fantastic! I’ve made it with ground beef, ground turkey, and meatless and it always tastes good. I sometimes add a bit of sugar to cut the acidity of the tomatoes, but that’s a personal preference. I plan to try it using homemade onion soup mix at some point, but haven’t yet.

    do you have to use spaghetti or can you use thinner capellini? not big on thicker spaghetti but it does sound like a good recipe!
