What Type of Cooking Oil is Best?

What type of oil do you use in cooking?  I have always used Canola Oil, except when baking… then I will often do 1/2 canola oil, 1/2 applesauce.  However, recently I was directed by a friend to the health benefits of coconut oil, so I ordered some to try.  Have you ever used it?  What are your thoughts?

I use coconut oil and cold press extra virgin olive oil. Coconut is excellent for fried foods and it is extremely good for you. EVOO is excellent too, the thing is when you use it to fry you are losing all the ‘good’ about it. Hence, the coconut oil. With CO you can fry and feel good!

Here is a website that shows a bunch of the wonderful benefits to using CO: http://www.coconutoil.com/index.html

We use extra virgin olive oil in most things. When cooking with high heat we use regular olive oil…the light one. Other than that, we use butter and/or coconut oil in place of shortening in all our recipes.

Everything has worked great for us…we’ve not experienced any real differences in substituting these for shortening and I think they are much healthier than shortening.

Olive oil is very tasty and has some nutty taste too.;-’
